The most memorable brands don’t choose between print and digital. They understand when each works best.

For years, marketers have predicted that print would disappear. Instead, something interesting happened.

As our lives became increasingly digital, printed marketing pieces became even more noticeable. We’re surrounded by emails, online ads, social media posts, websites, and digital notifications competing for our attention every minute of the day. Most of them are viewed for only a few seconds before disappearing with a swipe or click.

Print works differently.

A well-designed brochure, catalog, invitation, magazine, or direct mail piece doesn’t ask for a few seconds of attention. It invites people to slow down, hold it in their hands, explore its pages, and experience a brand in a way digital media simply can’t replicate.

People don’t remember marketing they simply see. They remember marketing they experience.

Digital marketing captures attention. Print creates an experience.

Why Print Creates Lasting Connections

One of print’s greatest strengths is that it engages more than just your eyes.

  • You can feel the texture of premium paper.
  • You notice the weight of a substantial brochure.
  • You run your fingers across an embossed logo.
  • You catch metallic foil reflecting the light.
  • You unfold a beautifully designed gatefold spread.

Those physical interactions create a stronger connection with your audience because they transform your marketing from something people simply view into something they actually experience.

When thoughtfully designed, print becomes an extension of your brand. It reflects your company’s personality, attention to detail, and commitment to quality before a single word is even read.

More Than Ink on Paper

Today’s printed marketing collateral offers far more possibilities than many people realize. Simple digital printing provides an economical solution for brochures, sales sheets, postcards, flyers, and short-run projects while still delivering professional results. When the project calls for something extraordinary, the possibilities expand dramatically.

Premium print production allows you to elevate your brand through details that simply can’t exist on a screen, including:

  • Premium coated and uncoated papers
  • Heavy cover stocks
  • Soft-touch and velvet finishes
  • Spot UV coatings
  • Metallic and specialty inks
  • Foil stamping
  • Embossing and debossing
  • Die cutting
  • Custom folding
  • Saddle stitching
  • Perfect binding
  • Wire-O and spiral binding
  • Presentation folders with custom pockets and inserts

These aren’t simply production techniques. They’re opportunities to create an emotional response and reinforce the quality of your brand through every interaction.

The Lasting Power of Print

Digital marketing often lasts only as long as a screen is in front of someone. An email is opened, a social media post is scrolled past, or an online advertisement disappears with the next click.

Print has a different lifespan.

A beautifully designed brochure may sit on a client’s desk for weeks. A product catalog can become a trusted reference that’s revisited again and again. A magazine or annual report may find a permanent place on a bookshelf or coffee table. Even a thoughtfully designed direct mail piece can remain visible long after it arrives.

Because print occupies physical space, it continues working long after the first impression. It becomes a constant reminder of your brand, your products, and your message.

Sometimes the most valuable marketing piece isn’t the one that’s seen first. It’s the one that’s still there when your customer is finally ready to make a decision.

Print and Digital Work Best Together

Print doesn’t replace digital marketing. It strengthens it.

Today’s most successful marketing strategies use both mediums to create a seamless customer experience.

  • A printed brochure can include QR codes that lead to videos, product demonstrations, or landing pages.
  • A product catalog can become an interactive digital publication.
  • An event invitation can arrive in the mail while registration takes place online.

A professionally designed sales brochure can also be offered as a downloadable PDF on your website, giving prospects the flexibility to engage with your content however they prefer.

The strongest brands don’t force customers to choose between print and digital. They use each where it performs best.

From Concept to Completion

At BGS Connect, I don’t simply design attractive marketing pieces. I develop communication tools with purpose.

Every successful project begins long before the first layout or design concept is created. It starts with asking the right questions.

That’s why I developed the Creative Project Planner, a guided questionnaire that helps uncover the information needed to build a successful marketing piece. Together, we identify your objectives, define your target audience, clarify your key message, establish the desired tone, and determine the action you want your audience to take.

With that foundation in place, I help shape the creative strategy, organize the content, establish the visual direction, and design every element to work together as one cohesive brand experience. The result isn’t just a beautiful brochure, catalog, or direct mail piece; it’s a communication tool designed with purpose and built to achieve your marketing goals.

Once the creative is approved, the process continues.

Production files are carefully prepared to ensure accuracy and consistency, whether the final piece is produced digitally or through a commercial offset press. Paper selections, finishes, binding methods, color accuracy, and production details are all considered before the project ever reaches the printer.

For larger or highly customized projects, I often attend press checks personally.

Standing on press allows me to review color accuracy, image reproduction, paper quality, finishing techniques, and overall production before thousands of pieces are printed. It’s an extra level of quality control that helps ensure the final product reflects the standards both my clients and I expect.

It’s a part of the creative process many designers never experience, but one I believe still makes a meaningful difference.

Choosing the Right Marketing Piece

Every business communicates differently, and every audience has different needs.

The right printed collateral depends on your goals, your message, and how your audience will interact with it.

Some projects may call for:

  • Corporate brochures
  • Product catalogs
  • Annual reports
  • Company magazines
  • Direct mail campaigns
  • Presentation folders
  • Sales sheets
  • Event invitations
  • Trade show materials
  • Rack cards
  • Magazine Ads
  • Booklets
  • Newsletters

Many of these same pieces can also be repurposed as downloadable PDFs, interactive digital publications, or online resources, extending the life of your investment while maintaining a consistent brand experience across every platform.

The goal isn’t simply deciding what to produce.

It’s determining which format best helps your audience understand, remember, and respond to your message.

Why I Still Love Print

After more than three decades in creative and brand development, I still enjoy watching a project come off the press.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing months of planning transformed into a finished piece that people can hold in their hands. The colors become richer, the textures come to life, and the craftsmanship that exists behind every decision becomes tangible.

Good print doesn’t simply communicate information.

  • It communicates professionalism.
  • It communicates credibility.
  • It communicates craftsmanship.

And in today’s increasingly digital world, that physical connection can leave an impression that lasts far longer than a fleeting moment on a screen.

Brad’s Take

Throughout my career, I’ve always believed that great printed marketing is about far more than putting ink on paper. It’s about creating something people genuinely want to pick up, explore, and keep. Every decision, from the messaging and photography to the paper stock, finishes, and production techniques, shapes how your audience experiences your brand.

That’s why I enjoy being involved in every step of the process, from the initial concept and creative strategy to preparing production files and, when the project calls for it, standing on press to ensure every detail meets the highest standard. Those final production decisions are just as important as the design itself because they’re often what transforms a good marketing piece into one that’s truly memorable.

While I have a deep appreciation for beautifully crafted print, I also recognize that today’s audiences expect flexibility. Nearly every brochure, catalog, magazine, or publication we create can also become a downloadable PDF or interactive digital experience, allowing your message to reach people wherever they choose to engage.
